Russ was the son of Rolla Henry and Willie Ann Ferrel Overflet..On Jan 31 1935 he married Freda Mae Hillhouse..Russ had been employed with the Missouri Pacific railroad for more than 31 years and at the time of his death was a Locomotive engineer for the Missouri Pacific Railroad..He attended elementary and high schools in Holliday before attending the Kirksville Teachers College..He lived in Sedalia before moving to Jefferson City in 1961..He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Division No 178 and the GIA. He had served as local chairman for the division for the past nine years.Russ was the Engineer of the CSP train travelling from Jefferson City Mo to Osawatomie Kansas when a gasoline truck pulled onto the tracks. His train hit it..Both Russ and the brakeman Harold F Dedrick were Burn alive..The truck drive escaped injury...Russ was an excellent engineer and was a well respected man..Russ was within months of retiring..
