Ellie Ruth Robinson Garvin, 92, of Amarillo died Monday, May 2, 2016.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Ellie Ruth Robinson Garvin was born April 15, 1924, in Quitaque to the late W.L. and Ruthie Robinson. Ruth was the second-youngest of nine children. She was born during the height of the Depression and Dust Bowl. She spent her day going to school as well as helping her family doing the chores of the house and walking the family cow down to the bar ditch to feed her to keep the family in milk.

Ruth met the man she would spend the rest of her life loving, when he came from Silverton to Quitaque to see the pretty girls of the town and there met the lady he would marry. On Dec. 25, 1941, Ellie Ruth Robinson married Wilbur A. Garvin in El Paso, where he was stationed while he waited to be deployed in World War II. They were the very proud parents of two beautiful girls, Charolette Ann Garvin Toledo and Linda Sue Garvin Nunn.

Ruth was the loving, proud grandmother to four grandchildren, Stan Stallings and wife Angie of Lubbock, James Nunn and wife Melissa of El Paso, Jessica Zoller and husband David of Las Cruces N.M., and Jeremy Nunn and wife Stephanie of Whiteface. Ruth had 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Ruth attended church at Amarillo Assembly of God Church for more than 50 years. She was very active in her church as a proud member of the church choir and a Sunday school teacher. She continued, until her last day, bringing the word of God to everyone she came in touch with. She allowed him to shine through her in order to lead many loved ones in their own walk with God.

Ruth was very loved and respected by all who met her. Everyone who met her said the same thing: “Oh I just love Ruth. She is the sweetest thing.”

She also was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur; a daughter, Linda Nunn; all brothers and sisters; and many, many loved ones.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
