James Frank Artley, 75, of Muncy Valley, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016.

Born January 25, 1941 in Milton, he was a son of the late Malcolm G. and Emily (Rogers) Artley. His wife of 48 years, the former Jacqueline Alice Hicks, preceded him in death on July 21, 2011.

James was a graduate of Muncy High School, Class of 1958. He then served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and was a member of the American Legion Post 945, Harrisburg. James retired in 2001 from JD Products where he worked as a mill wright for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, welding, and model trains. James also enjoyed hunting, fishing, Western books and movies, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are three daughters, Teresa A. (Michael) Stackhouse of Hughesville, Margaret Y. (Matthew) Basile of Bloomfield, NJ, and Dora M. (Franklin) Bower of Pennsdale; three sons, Todd E. Artley of Warrensville, NY, Jim M. (Rebecca) Artley of Berwick, and Donald L. (Lori) Artley of Muncy; two sisters, Helen Barsh and Margaret "Peg" Swinehart, both of Lewisburg; four brothers, Robert Fetzer of Havelock, NC, Verland "Butch" Springman of Muncy, Roger Springman of St. Marys, and Larry Springman of NY; and 13 grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Artley; a brother, Clyde Fetzer; and his biological mother, Florence L. Boob.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water Street, Hughesville, with Rev. Stephen C. Potutschnig officiating. Burial will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy, with graveside military honors accorded by combined veterans organizations. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
