On June 24, 1961, he married the former Susan Mergener at Grace Episcopal Church in Sheboygan. She preceded him in death on December 11, 2012.
Gene was employed by the Kohler Company for 46 years before retiring in 2004. While working for the Kohler Company, Gene also worked as an auto mechanic for several garages.
He was a faithful member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Kohler. Gene had a fondness for animals, supporting the Humane Society. He was also a lifelong blood donor, donating over 31 gallons of blood. He was an avid sports fan, with a special interest in NASCAR and the Green Bay Packers. In past years, he spent great times on annual trips to Northern Michigan with his family.
Survivors include his three children, Bradley Bloedorn, Sheboygan, Jeffrey (Ruth) Bloedorn, Colgate and Kim Bloedorn, Sheboygan; four grandchildren, Andrew, Eric, Brianna and Justin Bloedorn; one step-brother, Conrad Toepel; and other relatives and friends. He is also survived by his “honorary grandson and great-grandson”, Mykal (Ari) and Karsyn Prath.
In addition to his parents and wife, Gene was preceded in death by one step-brother, Ottomar Toepel.
Funeral services for Gene will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Ballhorn Chapels Funeral and Cremation Care Center (1201 N. 8th Street, Sheboygan) with the Rev. Robert Steele officiating. Friends may call on Saturday, at the funeral home, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of services. Interment with military honors will follow at Wildwood Cemetery.
