Monace was the second-born of her three sisters and one brother, born and raised on the farm in Lexington. After graduating HS in 1936, she couldn't wait to leave that farm, attending Central State Teacher's College (now UCO) in Edmond for her degree in 1940. She was an elementary teacher in Medford, Mustang, Quinton, Purcell, Lexington, and several schools in Oklahoma City, retiring from West Nichols Hills Elementary in 1974 after 20 years there as a beloved 4th grade teacher and vice principal.

She met Smitty thru his older sister Norma, her friend at Central State, and they married two days before Valentine's Day 1942, celebrating fifty-three anniversaries together.

Ascending on the St. Patrick's Day that would have been her beloved grandson Michael's 25th birthday, Monace was preceded in death by her parents Simon & Lula, husband Smitty, sister Juanita, brother Wendell James, and grandson, James Michael Keith.

She was survived by her two sons, Kelley, Terry and his wife Joy, sisters Fredona and Peggy Lou, daughter-in-law Susan, grandchildren Sarah, Stephen, Martin, and Nolan, great granddaughter Elaina Kay, six nieces, three nephews and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. Monace was the matriarch and backbone of the family and is dearly missed.
