Janice L. Allen, 83, of Roanoke, Va., died on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at home after a prolonged illness. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to everyone she met.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Leonard L. Allen, her parents, and her sister Jacqueline Wilson. Surviving her are four children, Linda Murdock (Ben Williams), Patricia Guy (David), Matthew Allen (Lavinia), and Gail Yager (Eddy); and her brother, Michael (Ralph) Flowers. She is also survived by five loving grandchildren, Lauren Davenport (Rob), Stacy Wampler (Jeremy), Collin Guy, Brian Allen and Logan Yager; eight amazing great grandchildren, Amethyst, Aiden, Ainsley, Asher, Atlee, and Austin Wampler; Jude and Maeve Davenport; and many nieces and nephews. She took great joy in her church, volunteering her time and actively participating in several clubs including the Women’s Club and JOY.

The family wishes to express our sincere and heartfelt appreciation to Dr. William A. Fintel and his team at Blue Ridge Cancer Care - Salem, the nursing staff on 6 West at Lewis Gale Hospital, and the Generation Solutions caregivers, all of whom provided love and support to her as she fought her battle with MDS.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 4:30 pm at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 314 Turner Rd. Salem, VA with Rev. Dr. Eric Surat officiating. The family will receive friends in the commons one hour prior to the service and immediately following at a reception in the social hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church 314 Turner Rd. Salem, VA. 24153, or the MDS Foundation 4573 South Broad St,, Suite 150, Yardville, NJ 08620.
