Corporal Conrad Buehler Passes to His Reward
Funeral Last Monday

Conrad Buehler, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Buehler of Shabbona Illinois, formerly of Claremont, Illinois, was born August 4, 1894 and passed away October 9, 1918 being 24 years of age. The young man was taken to the hospital on October 1st with pneumonia but his condition was not considered serious until Saturday evening, when his father was summoned to his bedside. He remained until his death after a lingering illness of nine days. The remains arrived home Friday evening.

The young man was called to service on June 27, 1918 and since that time had been training at Camp Zachary Taylor, Kentucky. At the end of the first three weeks, he was appointed Coporal. The young soldier was highly esteemed by all in the Camp, as well as by all who knew him, as his best efforts were always put forth, no matter what the work might be. Never would Conrad complain but strived to do his very best for the good of his country.

A 27 day furlough was given to Corporal Buehler during the month of August to assist with farm work, another means of serving his country. He returned to camp again on August 28, spending the remainder of his time training recruits. He was to have been made Sergeant within a couple of days for which promotion he earnestly studied during his spare time.

The yound man leaves to mourn his father, mother, three sisters Mrs. John Steber of Claremont and Lena, Josephine, two brothers, William and Clarence, who are at home. Corporal Buehler also had many relatives and friends who were greatly grieved to hear of his death. The remains were taken to Lee for burial on Monday, October 14th.
