Charles Jay Skidmore was born May 17, 1919, in Brigham City, Utah, to Charles H. Skidmore and Louise Wangsgaard Skidmore. He grew up in a cultural and educational family, his father being the State of Utah Superintendent of Public Instruction for 12 years. Jay attended junior high school and West High School in Salt Lake City, where he was very active in the ROTC program. He graduated from the University of Utah with Bachelor and Masters degrees. His Army assignment took him to Fort Wadsworth, New Jersey, as a personnel technician. Charles Jay and Anna Jean Bullock were married in 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, after an intense courtship. Jay took his bride to New York City, where he studied at Teacher's College and received his EdD, in Marriage Education and Counseling in 1949. From 1950 to 1982 he was a professor in the Department of Family and Human Development at Utah State University. He was a counselor with the Utah State University Counseling Center. Since his retirement, he has been a Temple Officiator and with his wife served an LDS Mission in New Zealand. They have five children: Norma Jean Remington (Alva), Centerville, Utah; Chad Skidmore (Connie), Redlands, California; Sally Pando (Jorge) Austin, Texas; Jill McGough (Dan) Logan, Utah; and Dr. Jon B. Skidmore (Kathy), Orem, Utah. He has 23 grandchildren and one and a half great-grandchildren in which he takes great pride.

Jay had a scholarly and professional career and has spent a lifetime in serving his church and community in ways of leadership and teaching. He was member of CUFFS (Community University Friends of Foreign Students). He supported KIWANIS for many years.

Charles Jay Skidmore died January 30, 2002, at Sunshine Terrace after a lengthy illness. He was 82 years old.

As a family we wish to express thanks to Sunshine Terrace for their kind and loving care.

The funeral will be held at 12:00 noon on February 2, 2002, at 875 N. 1500 E. in Logan 20th Ward Chapel. The viewing will be held Friday, February 1, 2002 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary on 34 E. Center Street in Logan from 6-8 p.m. There will also be a viewing at the church one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday.
