Sherry Pat Snoddy Strevel passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016 at the age of 75.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2016 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 6, in Brad Cemetery in Palo Pinto County, Texas.

It is with grateful hearts that we celebrate the life of Sherry. She was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1940 in Brad, Texas in Palo Pinto County. Her parents were Elisha Felix and Clemmie Elizabeth Dendy Snoddy. She was the youngest of five children. She graduated from Graford High School in Graford, Texas in 1959. While in high school, she was a member of Alpha Beta Club and voted “Favorite Girl” her junior year. Upon graduation, she attended Mary Hardin Baylor College in Belton, Texas from 1959-1961. She met Robert Reed Strevel in 1959 while he was in the U.S. Army and stationed in Killeen, Texas. They were married in Palo Pinto County, Texas on February 25, 1961. They were blessed with two children, Steven Wayne Strevel and Teresa Lynne Strevel Dunlap.

Sherry was preceded in death by her father Elisha Felix Snoddy, mother Clemmie Elizabeth Dendy Snoddy, two brothers John Felix and Hershel Lenard, and two sisters Iris Coreen Snoddy Stuart and Elizabeth Carmon Snoddy Leverett.

Sherry leaves her husband Robert, son Steven, daughter Teresa, and son-in-law Jeff; six grandchildren – Shawn Steven Strevel, Shauna Star Strevel McArthur, Amber K’Lee Ann Cook Hales, Shaylea Dianne Cook Pennington, Alexander Reed Strevel and Thatcher Reed Dunlap; six great grandchildren – Zachery Landon Andrews, Shambrey Faith Stanfield, Summer K’Lee Ann Cook Hales, Addison Annette Cook Warren, Chevy Michael Hales and Caselyn Ruby McArthur.

Sherry was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Abilene as well as the Abilene Christian Women’s Connection. While growing up, she would swim in the Ioni Creek and Brazos River every chance she could. She taught Sunday school for twelve years in several states while her husband served in the U.S. Army. She worked at the Abilene State School for 22 years and retired in 1998. Sherry enjoyed scrapbooking and created several family albums. She firmly believed that everything happened for a reason in her life, and those reasons were God’s will.

The family suggests that live plants are preferred over flowers, or that memorial donations be sent to Rescue the Animals SPCA, 4620 North 1st Street, Abilene, TX 79603, or Meals on Wheels Plus, PO Box 903, Abilene, TX 79604.
