Sylvia Sclar Friedman, EdD. B. 4/27/1915; D. 4/27/2016.

Dr. Friedman (nee Sclar) formerly of Haddon Heights died at Medford Leas on her 101st birthday.

After her children were in school, she earned a masters degree from Temple University and a doctorate in psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1971. She then practiced as a marriage and family therapist for 30 years.

She was married to Alfred Henry Friedman from 1940 until his death in 1994. In her later years she enjoyed a deep and loving friendship with Bernard Rosen of Cherry Hill (D. 2014), travelling widely. May the fullness of her life and career be an inspiration for women everywhere.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and their spouses of whom she was immensely proud as people who make a difference: sons Michael B. Friedman and Harriet Mauer of White Plains, NY; Stephen B. and Anita C. Friedman of Chicago, IL; grandchildren Benjamin B. Friedman and Noni Lewis of Washington, D.C. and Danielle and Paul Nestadt of Baltimore, MD. She is also survived by three great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in whose lives she played an important role.

Her body has been donated to science through the Humanities Gift Registry. A memorial service is scheduled for May 9, 2016, 11 AM at Medford Leas, Rt. 70, Medford, NJ. Donations in her memory may be made to the Employee Appreciation Fund of Medford Leas, One Medford Leas Way, Medford, NJ 08055.
