Roy faithfully served God and the nation thought out his life.
He was born near Fort Scott, Kansas. He grew up on a Kansas farm attending rural school and then Fort Scott High where he met and eventually married the love of his life, the former Virginia May Huston in 1948.

After attending Fort Scott Community College, he decided to enter the ministry and enrolled at Phillips University, Enid Oklahoma, receiving a BA degree in 1949.

He was ordained in the Christian Church disciples of Christ at Fort Scott, KS. in April 1949 and then attended the Graduate Seminary of Phillips, receiving a BD degree in 1952. Later that year, Roy was commissioned a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and went on active duty as an Air Force Chaplin.

His first duty station took him to Korea for the last months of the Korean War, where he was present for the POW exchange at the end of the conflict.

Stateside he served as bases in Oklahoma, California, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia and Nebraska.
Oversees he saw assignments in England, France, Germany and Okinawa.
He served 4 years with the Defense Atomic Support Agency and is a graduate of the Nuclear Weapons School, Sandia Base, NM.
His military decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the Untied Nations Service Medal, in addition to other unit citations and awards.

Following a distinguished 28-year military career, Roy retired from the Air Force in 1980 at the rank of Colonel.
After his Air Force service, Roy continued as a active minister, serving the Anderson Grove Presbyterian Church in Bellevue NE until 2002, and after that the LaPlatte Community Church in Bellevue NE until 2012.

A passionate football and baseball enthusiast, he was a devoted father, grandfather and friend.
