His birth name was EDMOND MUMFORD (BUTLER) PARKS, however when he was grown he dropped the EDMOND and just used MUMFORD BUTLER PARKS. He was born at Juliette (Monroe county) Georgia, and was raised at Chambers and Pike counties in Alabama. He lived and died at Buckhorn, Monticello(Pike county) Alabama. He was a farmer by trade and a Baptist by faith. BUTLER's parent's are ELI SYLVESTER PARKS, SR. and ELIZABETH PERVIE (HUDSPETH) PARKS. BUTLER served in the C.S.A. in Company # A, the 27th and 57th. Regiments, Alabama Infantry. The 57th. Regiment was known as the CLANTON RIFLES. MUMFORD BUTLER served with his brother HARMON GLENNON PARKS, in the same regiment and fought in several skirmishes and battles including Dalton-Atlanta campaign, Peachtree Creek, Franklin and Nashville, Tennessee. At Peachtree Creek, Georgia, BUTLER's brother HARMON was captured and taken to P.O.W. Camp Douglas at Chicago (Cook county) Illinois, where he died. The regiment surrendered its colors with Johnston's Army at the close of the war. After the war, BUTLER married ELEANOR JOSEPHINE PLEDGER, April-15-1866 at Pike county, Alabama. They soon moved to Marion (Union Parish) Louisiana, but didn't stay there very long, then moved back to Buckhorn (Pike county) Alabama where they both died. Both BUTLER and wife ELEANOR are buried in Shiloh Baptist Church cemetery at Pike county, Alabama.
