ROCKLAND - Dorothy Mae Blastow, 89, passed away peacefully, Monday, April 25, 2016. Born in Rockland, December 10, 1926, she was the daughter of Henry Carmen and Agnes Wotton Hutchinson.

Dorothy was a loving mother, homemaker and friend to every generation of the Blastow and Hutchinson families. A 'red-headed firecracker', she loved being at home and was a kid a heart. She sang and danced everything from the Depression Era up to Elvis. Simplicity was her virtue. A beautiful startling petite red-head, she had an air of aristocracy yet the demeanor of a peasant. She simply loved all of her family.

She married Valmore G. Blastow, Sr. on January 3, 1946. Together they shared 51 years as one; until on March 24, 1997, he passed from her everyday grip. Dorothy was predeceased by a grandson, Danny Blastow; son-in-law, Lester Staples; her sisters, Ethel (Lavoie) Mank, Ida Davis, Ruth Harvey; and a brother Owen Hutchinson.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Staples; her sons, Valmore, Jr., Harry and Bruce; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and sisters-in-law, Gleneida Blastow and Alice Hutchinson.

A graveside funeral service will be held at Achorn Cemetery, Old County Road, Rockland. The Revered Wayne Sawyer will officiate. (Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home and Bangor Daily News 4/29/2016)
