Mary Opal (Mollie) Bugg was born Monday, May 9, 1870 at home in Bourbon Township, Callaway Co., MO. She was the daughter of John B. Bugg and Agnes Permelia Patton.

About 1876, the family moved to Big Bend Township, Republic Co., KS. She told of crossing the Missouri River north of St. Joseph, with the cow "swimming" behind the horses and wagon.

She married Edgar Ebenezer Heath Sunday, February 15, 1885 at her home in Big Bend Township, Republic Co., KS.. They would be married 16 years, 2 months and 27 days.

8 children were born to this union: Edward Doral, Ray, Roy Harrison, Melvin Earl, Pearl Monroe, Arlene Axie, Mary Opal, and John B.

They homesteaded in Sheridan Co., KS eighteen miles southeast of Hoxie, where they lived in a sod house. She told of having to string a rope from the house to the barn in the winter so they wouldn't get lost in the blizzards; in the summer, a hoe was just outside of the front door of the house to use to kill the rattlesnakes when they walked outside.

About 1890, they moved about three miles northwest of Brown's Station, Boone Co., MO. Mary Opal's trip to KS some 16 years earlier was by wagon and horses, but this return trip to MO was by train.

After the death of Edgar in 1901, she married Allen Ember McGee Monday, December 28, 1903. They would be married 48 years, 9 months and 11 days.

2 children were born to this union: Auris Martin and Andrew Lee.

She was a member of the Oakland Christian Church.

Mary Opal died of myocarditis at 8:30 AM Thursday, October 9, 1952 at her home in Boone Co., MO, aged 82 years and 5 months. She was survived by 9 children, 36 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband and a son.
