Abraham Rohrbough was the 14th of 15 children born to Anthony Rohrbough and Elizabeth Sieman/Simon. The marriage bann was published June 17, 1837 for Abraham and Julia Dean, daughter of John C. Dean and Catherine Haevner. Their marriage took place on June 25, 1837 at Rohrbough Siding, Lewis County, (West) Virginia.

In 1838, they moved to the western part of the county and settled on 83 acres that overlooked the western fork of the Monongahela River near the small settlement of Bush’s Mills. The homestead, known as Grandview Farm, had a spectacular view of the unfolding river valley. The hill was and is known as Abram’s Knob. The farmhouse on the top of the hill could be seen from Old 19 from half an hour’s drive away. The farm remained in the family for four generations, until the Stonewall Jackson Dam and State Park were created in the 1980s. It was a prosperous place, kind to the fruit trees, fields and animals that lived there. Though they had to carry water up the hill, the family felt fortunate to have an artesian spring instead of well water.

Abraham and Julia had 11 children:
• Anthony Elijah, born 1838, married Ruhama Shoulders.
• Rachel Ruhama, born 1839, married first Jacob Pletcher and second Ruben F. Rowan.
• Cynthia Jane, born 1841, married Jacob P. McCauley.
• John Gilbert, born 1844, Civil War veteran, remained single but raised his nephew, John Grose McCray, after the lad’s parents died. He lived on the original homestead and passed it to John G. at his death.
• Nathan W. Rohrbough was born in 1845 and died in 1900.
• David Abraham, born 1846, married first Lucinda Watson and second Regina or Rachel Hudson (dependant upon which record you accredit.)
• Soloman Lafayette, born 1848, served as a teamster for the Union side in the Civil War. He married Mary Tanner and later settled in Illinois.
• Jacob A. Rohrbough, born 1851, married Melissa A. Conrad.
• Catherine Ann, born 1853, married Joseph Rowan.
• Bird Lucretia, born 1857, married Andrew Wilson McCray, Sr. They were the parents of John Groce McCray and other children.
• Amanda Alice Jerushia Rohrbough, born 1861, married Andrew M. Rollyson.

Abraham and Julia are buried on what was their farm, along with five other family members. The little family cemetery is well cared for by the maintenance staff of the Stonewall Jackson State Park.
