Richard Peter Cornelius, Jr. "RIP" "Corney", age 76, a Plainfield resident, at rest Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Alden Estates of Shorewood.

Born May 12, 1939, in Crookston, MN to Richard Peter Sr. and Mae (nee Last) Cornelius and raised by Louise Cornelius. A U.S. Navy Vietnam veteran proudly serving his county from 1958-1964. Member of the American Legion Post #13, Past Commander and Woodruff Golf Thursday Night Golf League. A sports fanatic enjoying all sports, and he coached Plainfield Little League Baseball, 1976-1980.

Survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Ann (nee Dillon) Cornelius; his two sons, Craig Cornelius (Margy Malak) and Jeffrey (Christine) Cornelius; four grandchildren, Dakota "Cody" Lorenz, Jeffrey Jr, Justin and Macy Cornelius; three brothers, Frank (Diana), Paul (Barbara), Cornelius, Dennis (Marlys) Ristau; one sister; Dorine (Russell) Berg; and uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Richard Cornelius will be held Friday, April 29, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors under the auspices of the United States Navy. Visitation Thursday, 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
