Obituary in The Shreveport Times April 24, 2016:

Mary T. Berryman, known to family and friends as 'The Leopard Lady' died Wednesday in Shreveport after a brief illness.

Mary started collecting leopards in the 1970s after cancer claimed Robert B. Berryman, the love of her life. Her love of all things spotted extended to little surprises she gave everyone in her life. From toy leopard to newborns to leopard-patterned pens and scissors, she was always prepared with a gift to brighten someone's day.

Mary grew up in east Texas and Greenwood, Louisiana, with her parents, William A. and Clara E. Tabb, and her sister, Marjorie T. Brumble. All three preceded her in death.

She graduated from Greenwood High School and business school. She and Bob married in 1948. For the next 28 years, she traveled with Bob as his career in the oil and gas industry took them around east Texas, and, ultimately, to Houston.

During their first stay in Shreveport, she and Bob helped found Southern Hills Church of Christ. They also were instrumental in founding and supporting the Louisiana Child Care Placement Services.

Mary returned to Shreveport, and Southern Hills Church of Christ, in 1986. She maintained a feisty independence, even after moving to Azalea Estates in Shreveport in 2015. The family wishes to thank the staff and residents - especially Alla Talley -- for all their kindness and care.

She is survived by her niece, Melody Brumble, of Shreveport; special friend, Judy Chandler, of Shreveport; "children of the heart", Bruce and Teena Duke, of Stonewall, and Marianne Davis, of Kerrville, Texas; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne and Bitsy Berryman, of Tyler, Texas.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday April 27, 2016 at Southern Hills Church of Christ, 9080 Southwood Drive, Shreveport, LA. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday April 26, 2016 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall St., Shreveport, LA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southern Hills Church of Christ and the church's Family Care Fund.
