She served as a volunteer at the Cabarrus County Fair for many years in the farm and home building at the old fairgrounds and the registration table in Gold Hall. She was recognized in 2014 with the Clyde L Propst Jr. Memorial Award for her years of volunteer service. She was an active, lifelong member of Mount Hermon Lutheran Church where she served for many years as financial secretary and was the first woman elected to serve on the church council
