Verla M. Yates, 98, of Atlanta formerly of Peoria passed away at 12:55 PM on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Christian Village Nursing Home in Lincoln. She was born on February 2, 1918 in Mason County to Isaac “Cooter” and Sara (Vandyke) Adkins. On March 1, 1952 in Peoria she married Albert S. Yates who preceded her in death on April 16, 1991.
Verla is survived by 2 daughters: Sally (Chris) Linski of Atlanta and Trina (Dennis) Freres of East Peoria, 5 grandchildren: Hilary, Isaac, Chad, Daniel and Christina, 7 great-grandchildren: Neveah, Savannah, Brendyn, Connor, Brayden, Dawson and Rylan and her sister Audrey Moehring of Pekin. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 4 sisters: Mildred, Marjorie, Ellen and Erma and her brother Edward.
She worked for Peoria Mini Storage retiring in 1991. Verla formerly attended Bethel Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 25, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana, 217 North Plum Street, with Ryan Edgecomb officiating, visitation beginning an hour before at 10:00 AM also at the funeral home, burial to follow at Bethel Cemetery.
