Mattie M. Farris, 96, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.

She was born September 1, 1919, in Lineville, IA, daughter of Earnest and Eliza Wasson Grisamore. She was raised in Lineville and was a graduate of Lineville High School. In 1939, she was married to Orbin Welch, who passed away in 1970. In 1972, she married Lovell Farris, who passed away in July 1986.

She worked in secretarial positions for 32 years at Shryact Wright Wholesale Grocery, Mid-Continent Wholesale and Standard Oil accounting firm. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Chapter 57 Order of the Eastern Star, Helen G. Steele Music Club, and a life member of Ladies of Scottish Rite and Ararat Temple of Kansas City. She spent her retirement years as a member of the Bothwell Auxiliary, volunteering for 25 years at Bothwell Regional Health Center.

She was also preceded in death by her son, James Welch in 1982; her parents; seven brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are her daughter, Connie Welch, of Lyons, WI; her son, Richard Welch and his wife, Donna, of West Chester, OH; her daughter-in-law, Lucy Welch Coe, of Spokane, WA; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2016, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Glenn Sparks officiating.

Burial was be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family received friends from 10:00 a.m. until the service time Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to First Baptist Church or Bothwell Hospital Auxiliary.
