Lula Artz Ringerwole, age 101, passed away into the loving arms of Jesus on Tuesday, April 19, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, of almost 60 years.

Born on a farm in Allegan county near East Saugatuck, her parents were Fred and Johanna Artz. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Joan Ringerwole, formerly of Sioux Center, Iowa, and a brother, Kenneth Artz, of Holland. Her nephews are Edward (Diana) Artz and Harvey (Gloria) Artz, nieces Bonnie Spikes and Betsy Artz, and grand nieces and nephews.

Lula graduated from Holland High School in 1932 and was a member of Phi Beta Literary Society. She enjoyed music and was an accompanist for Hanley chapel services and also soloists. As a self-taught musician she played the guitar, accordion, vibraharp and piano for church activities and services in Zutphen and Hudsonville Christian School PTA and Unity Christian High Band Boosters. She was a member of Immanuel Christian Reformed Church (almost a charter member) where she sang in the choir and participated in various societies and committees. Along with her husband, Lula traveled on many trips all over the United States and Canada. They often were in attendance at organ recitals given by their daughter, Joan, which included the Mormon Tabernacle and New York City’s St. Thomas the Episcopal church on Fifth Avenue. They both supported organ and piano scholarships at Dordt College, Sioux Center, Iowa.

Lula wishes to give special thanks for the help and concern given to her by neighbors: John and Sally Kamphuis, Peter and Minerva Ng, Carl and Annette Kerkstra, Tom and Sandy Hamilton, Garry and Marylou VanderPloeg, and Mark and Dianne Babbin. She thanks her daughter, Joan, who was her caregiver in her home for over 7 years, and finally Faith Hospice Trillium Woods where she received excellent care and numerous visits from volunteers.

Her funeral service will be held at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Hudsonville at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 23, 2016. Visitation will be held at the VanderLaan Funeral Home in Hudsonville on Friday from 2 to 4 P.M. and one hour prior to the funeral service at church. Memorial gifts can be given to Dordt College Music Department Organ Scholarship fund.
