Original name: Margaretha Sofia Lovisa Ingeborg of Sweden and Norway

Swedish princess. She was originally Princess of Sweden of the Bernadotte Dynasty and also Princess of Norway (until 1905), a granddaughter of King Oscar II. After her marriage in 1919 to Prince Axel of Denmark and her move there, she quickly became accustomed to her Danish life and was popular as Princess of Denmark. She and Axel had two sons. After his death she was more frequently back in Sweden and as a Swedish princess attended such events as the Nobel Prize ceremonies. Her sisters were Queen of Belgium and Crown Princess of Norway, and she supported their children when they had died relatively young. Her last visit to Sweden was for the wedding in 1976 of the current king.
