A 1956 graduate of Port Clinton High School, he served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps for nine years as an aircraft electrician. He spent 1966 in Vietnam in a Helicopter Squadron and also flew as a port side gunner, and was awarded four Air Medals, a Navy Commendation Medal with the Combat “V”, and two Good Conduct Medals and discharged as a SGT. Three months after discharge he joined the United States Air Force where he served for 11 years, mostly as an instructor at Chanute, AFB, Rantoul, Ill. He also taught foreign students in Thailand for one year, and was the recipient of three Air Force Commendation Medals, among other awards.
Ron retired from the Air Force as a Master SGT in 1978. He moved to Las Cruces and worked in Civil Service at White Sands Missile Range for 18 ½ years as a base electrician, retiring in May 1998.
Ron was survived by his wife of 31 years, Anna Gall, a son, Kenneth Gall (Elizabeth), of Champaign, IL; daughters, Pamela Davis (Arnold), of Cochranville, PA, and Karen Black (Roy), of Warrensburg, MO; grandsons, JJ Gall (Cassi), Michael and Eric Black, Christopher Gall (Stacey), and Matthew Gall; great-grandchildren, Ragan and Hailey. Other survivors include a sister, Sharon Younker (Homer “Butch”) of Ohio; his step-sons, Fred Gomez (Grace) of San Antonio, TX and Alvaro Gomez of Phoenix, AZ; stepdaughter, Patricia Gomez (David Sheldon) of Seattle, WA; step grandchildren, Alexander and Joseph of Glendale, AZ, and step-granddaughter, Emma of Seattle, WA.
Ron was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Las Cruces, as well as life member of the Marine Corps League - El Perro Diablo Detachment #478, where he served on the Honor Guard. He was also a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America, Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion.
The funeral service was held at Trinity Luthern Church, with Pastor Paul Carlson officiating. Concluding Service and Interment follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, where he was laid to rest in the family plot. Military Honors were accorded by the Marine Corps League – El Perro Diablo Detachment.
