Dolores M. Maxwell passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, in Lubbock, after a long illness. She is survived by her many nieces and nephews and was preceded in death by her devoted husband and companion, Dr. Henry (Max) Maxwell.

Dolores was born to Stella and David Melvin in Denver, Colorado and completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Denver. After a stint teaching elementary school in Clayton, New Mexico, she moved to Madison, Wisconsin where she earned her master's degree in library science at the University of Wisconsin. She met and married Max while at the university.

The greater part of her career was spent in the library at Texas Tech University where she worked as a reference librarian, bibliographer, and rare books specialist.

She was active in the 20th Century Club and the Great Books Study Club.

Dolores treasured rare books and materials, was passionate about literature and literacy, took great pleasure in opera, and was an acknowledged Harry Potter expert. She enjoyed good food and was a wonderful and accomplished cook.

She will be missed by her family and friends.

An informal gathering honoring the lives of both Dolores and Henry will be held at their home on Sunday, May 2, 2010, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Please join us in celebrating their lives at www.resthavenfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are by Resthaven Funeral Home.
