Inscription

Smith founded the first Baptist Church on Texas soil on 29 March 1834. The Providence Baptist Church was 12 miles south of Bastrop on the Colorado River. Under Spanish Grant Smith was given a league of land (4439 acres) in Burleson County which he divided among his family.

Abner was one of the first Primitive Baptist Ministers to come to Texas in 1832. He established churches in Bastrop, and Burleson Co's, as well as participated in establishing many more in Texas.

Gravesite Details

His Cemetery where it was reported that he was buried does not have a marker for him. I have walked the whole Cemetery personally.
