July 19, 1941- April 17, 2016

George R. Baker, 74, Martinsburg went home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife, Sandra, Sunday morning at UPMC, Altoona.
He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late J. Paul and Ida Mae (Spielman) Baker.
He married Sandra K. Detwiler on March 16, 1963 in rural Martinsburg. She preceded him in death on June 4, 2009.
Surviving are 2 sons: Wesley B. (Kathleen) of Springfield, VA and Douglas E. (Deanna) of Grantville; a daughter, Halley (Baker) Henry of Coatesville; 5 grandchildren: Wendy, Evan and Olivia Baker, and Brynn and Paige Henry.
George was a 1959 graduate of Morrison Cove High School, Martinsburg and a 1963 graduate of Elizabethtown College where a received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Studies.
He retired in 2006 from Bolger Brothers, Inc., Altoona and had previously been self employed as owner/operator of Breezewood Gulf for 10 years. George was also employed in sales and marketing for the Gulf Oil Corporation for 10 years and following graduation taught social studies at Elizabethtown High School.
George was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg and a member of the Boy Scouts of America earning the rank of Eagle Scout and later served as scout master of Troop #58, Martinsburg. He also was a member of Woodbury Lodge #539 F&AM, Roaring Spring, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Altoona Consistory Valley of Altoona, Cove Area Shrine Club and the Jaffa Shrine Center of Altoona.
He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and was an avid hunter, outdoorsman, and model train enthusiast. George also enjoyed spending time at his Quiet Acres Cabin and his pet golden retrievers.
Friends will be received from 5-8pm, Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg, where a Masonic service will be held at 8pm. A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Thursday, April 21, 2016 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg, Pastor Ed Harshbarger and Pastor Judith E. Simonson officiating.
Private interment will be held at Dry Hill Cemetery, Woodbury.
The family prefers memorial contributions be given to Center for Organ Recovery, 204 Sigma Dr., Pittsburgh, PA 15238 or Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue, 60 Vera Cruz Rd., Reinholds, PA 17569.
