Miller Jr., Henry S. Henry S. Miller, Jr., an icon among the business and civic leaders of Dallas, died in his home on Saturday, December 5, 2009, surrounded by the love of his family. Mr. Miller gave generously of his time and resources to numerous arts and non-profit organizations not only in Dallas but statewide as well as globally. As Honorary Director and Founding President of The Dallas Opera, he along with his late wife, Juanita, was noted for his involvement with the Dallas Symphony, Dallas Theater Center, Dallas Museum of Art, among others. Keeping with his love of youth and mentoring, he served as the director of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra and founded the Annual Juanita Miller Concerto Competition for students. Mr. Miller had been a long-time Trustee of Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, Director for the Metropolitan YMCA of Dallas, and President of the SMU Alumni Association. Mr. Miller was a 33rd degree Mason and the recent recipient of the Dedman Lifetime Achievement Award for Philanthropy in February 2009, which he was honored and proud to have received. Mr. Miller also received such awards as the Texas Business Hall of Fame, SMU Distinguished Alumni and the Dallas Historical Society. Mr. Miller was very devoted to his friends and colleagues in the Breakfast Group and Brokers Luncheon Group for many years. He served as Chairman Emeritus of Henry S. He served in the US Army during World War II, rising to the rank of Major by the end of his service and rejoined the Company in 1946, leading to its legendary growth as the fifth largest real estate brokerage firm in the country by 1984.
