Dorothy C. (Gauthier) Winter, 101 of Suring, entered eternal life very peacefully on Friday, April 15, 2016 at Atrium Post Acute Care of Oconto Falls, formerly Sharpe Care with family at her side. Dorothy was born on September 20, 1914 to the late Albert and Sarah Christenson in South Branch, WI and lived most of her life in Oconto County. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy. She was treasurer of the Town of Maple Valley for 25 years and a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church for most of her life. She was the oldest living member of the Menominee Indian Tribe.

Dorothy married Raymond Gauthier on June 29, 1935, a school teacher and farmer. They raised five children: Albert, James, Janice, Patrick, and Thomas on a farm near Suring. They were married 25 years. Raymond preceded her in death and she later married Lee Winter on June 22, 1968 and gained three stepdaughters: Janice, Margaret, and Joy. Dorothy and Lee enjoyed many trips together, including yearly fishing trips to Thunder Bay, Canada and to California to see Lee’s daughters.

She loved nature and spent many hours tending to her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens and her many houseplants. Her favorites were her many varieties of hens and chicks which she shared with many. Dorothy also loved crafting. She made many wreaths of greens, grapevines and pinecones and also lots of corn husk and dried apple head dolls. She taught many of her friends how to make little origami boxes from old greeting cards.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Tom of Suring; her daughter, Janice (David) Johnson of Crivitz; and daughter-in-law, Patsy Gauthier of Suring. She will be greatly missed by 22 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grand children.

Dorothy was preceded in death by husbands, Raymond Gauthier and Lee Winter; sons, Albert, James, and Patrick Gauthier; granddaughter, Elizabeth (Gauthier) LaRock; and siblings, Myrtle (Sister Mary Alice), Iva (Harry) Smith, John (Hilda) Christenson, Alger (Lola) Christenson, and Joy (Gerald) Boortz.

Visitation will be held at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring on Wednesday April 20, 2016 from 9 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Michaels Catholic Church with Sister Marla Clercx and Father Dean Dombroski officiating. Dorothy will be interred in St. Michaels Catholic Cemetery.
