Hubert "Bud" Burken, Jr., was born on May 18. 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa to Katherine (McShane) Burken and Hubert Burken, Sr. Bud passed away on April 13, 2016 . Bud was in preflight school in the Navy Air Corp and was a primary training cadet when World War II ended. He then went on to graduate from Iowas State in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. In 1952, he married Laura (Weidenhammer) Burken, who survives. Hubert worked as a foreman at General Motors in Defiance, Ohio for 8 years, and then traveled the country as Resident Engineer for Campbell Soup Company plants in Modesto, California; Sumter, South Carolina; Chicago, Illinois; and Napoleon, Ohio, where he retired. Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Katherine Coleman, and a son, Bruce Burken. Surviving are his sister, Margaret Hanson of Omaha, Nebraska and eleven children; Kathy (Jim) Goorskey of Wisconsin, Bil (Suzie) Burken of California, Theresa (Steve) Segarra of Florida, David Burken of California, Mary Lysne of Illinois, Helen Burken of Illinos, Marcie (Ken) Czarny of Illinois, Steve (Christina) Burken of Illinois, Mike (Monique Rys) Burken of Colorado, Mark (Christa) Burken of Napoleon, and Timmy Burken of North Carolina; 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Bud was a member of the American Legion Post in Napoleon, Knights of Columbus, National Rifle Association, St. Vincent DePaul, and an active member of St. Augustine Church. Bud had a tremendous love for gardening and building things, and was very involved in the Fall Festival. Turtle Fest, and many other activities with St. Augustine Church. While he volunteered much of his life to the church, he was a very devoted husband and father to his twelve children. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 17, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Walker-Hoening Mortuary in Napoleon. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 18, 2015 at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery.
