He married Rita McInturff and they enjoyed 50 years of marriage until her death in 2000. Together they raised two children. He was a loving grandfather to six grandchildren. In 2002 Wayne married his loving wife Reverend Marilyn (Hanover) Chivington and she survives in Piqua. Wayne graduated in 1949 from Piqua High School and served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After serving his country he worked for his step father-in-law as a mechanic and later took over Ankerman's Garage in Fletcher. He remained in Fletcher for 58 years as an active member of the community serving on the Fletcher Fire Dept. as Assistant Fire Chief, working for the village as the water and street superintendent, and as a member of the Fletcher United Methodist Church. Wayne was a 32nd Degree Mason, and a former Lodge Master for Lena Social Masonic Lodge. Wayne enjoyed boxing and received the honor of Golden Glove Boxing Champion. He will be remembered by many for his love of photography. He worked for the Piqua Daily Call and could always be found at a school game or meet. He took many photos of family and friends and his home in Fletcher.
