Henry Hauer Bellamann was born in Fulton, Missouri where he graduated from Fulton High School in 1899 and attended Westminster College in Fulton for one year. He transferred to the University of Colorado to pursue his studies in music. He first made a living in music continuing his studies in America as well as abroad. Henry married Katherine Jones of Carthage, Mississippi on September 2, 1907 in Leake Co., Carthage, Mississippi. With the encouragement of his wife he switched his interest to writing. In 1940 he wrote the novel Kings Row which became an acclaimed movie starring Ann Sheridan, Ronald Reagan and Bob Cummings. He continued writing and also held positions in music education as professor, dean and served on the board of Julliard Music Foundation. He died in his home of a heart attack in Manhattan, New York in 1945.the Fulton Daily Sun-Gazette-1981:

Henry Bellaman books, especially "Kings Row", a novel based on Fulton, Missouri, aren't easy to come by in Callaway County, according to Carmen Rand, executive secretory of the Chamber of Commerce. According to Jay Kerr, a professor at Westminster College, who has done extensive research on Bellaman. The book was last printed in England about 1966.
