Charles Milton Best was born on November 21, 1935 in Hammond, Indiana. He was the third of Vernon and Beulah (Rice) Best's four children. When he was about nine he moved with his family to San Francisco, California where his father was a civilian dock worker. After the war Vernon moved his family back to Lake County, Indiana. Chuck graduated from Calumet High School. While in school he played basketball, baseball and saxophone. After graduation, Chuck became an Operating Engineer like his father.
On February 1, 1958 he was united in marriage with Ruby. To this union five children were born. Chuck and Ruby made their home and raised their family in the area. Uncle Chuck had an incredible sense of humor, was a Christian and devoted family man who enjoyed walking his dog, watching the Cubs and golfing with his buddies. After being ill for some time, he went home to be with the Lord on March 26, 2016.
