Dorothy Dyess “Dot” Eversull, 91, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday, April 11, 2016. A visitation will be held at Osborn Funeral Home on Friday, April 15th, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, followed by a graveside service on Saturday, April 16th, at 11:00 am at Alexandria Memorial Gardens, conducted by Father Jim Theis.

Dot was born in Robeline, Louisiana, on May 12, 1924, to Martin Van Buren and Lela Doolittle Dyess. She grew up in Joaquin, Texas, and met the love of her life, Willie Eustis “Son” Eversull in Alexandria, Louisiana, while he was serving in the US Army. They married five weeks later on March 2, 1941, and were married 42 years before his death in 1983. During the war, they lived in Palacios, Texas, and later made their home in Alexandria where they raised their three children.

Our mom was multi-talented as a fabulous cook, who wrung her hands with worry as she saw Son walk in with unexpected guests, only to prepare incredible dinners in a matter of minutes. She was a master quilter and sewed beautifully, and was the Louisiana Ladies State Trap Shooting Champion several years in the 1970s. She also accomplished the fine art of making stained and leaded glass windows and panels. Many churches in the Alexandria area are adorned with her stained glass windows, as are many homes with her stained and leaded glass. In her later years she volunteered with the Rapides Parish Home Extension Program judging various events at the Rapides Fair. In addition, she volunteered many years for the Red River Revel after she moved to Shreveport in 1998.

Her parents; her husband, Son; as well as three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.

Left to cherish wonderful memories of her life are her son, Kenneth Paul Eversull and wife, Patricia “Doodie” of Alexandria; Twylla Eversull Seaman; and Karen Eversull Popwell and her husband, Benny, of Shreveport.

She was involved in many projects for her grandchildren’s lives.

She will be greatly missed by all her grandchildren: Jim Seaman of Shreveport, LA; Dr. Elizabeth Eversull of Dallas, TX; Brett Eversull and his wife, Denise, of Houston, TX; Sarah Popwell Schoolfield and her husband, Brent, of Fort Worth, TX; Michael Popwell and his wife, Melis, of Thompsons Station, TN; and Julia Popwell of Shreveport. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, whom she adored; her brother, James Dyess, of Shreveport; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Honoring Dot, as pallbearers will be Jim Seaman, Brett Eversull, Michael Popwell, Brent Schoolfield, Dr. Benny Popwell, and Roy Watts.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Brown, Terry Hansen, Edward Tillman, and dear friend, Fred Ulrich.
