Tony graduated from Cathedral Preparatory School in 1960. Having a great love for history and teaching, Tony attended Gannon University where he earned his undergraduate degree in Education and achieved his Master's degree in Elementary Education from Edinboro University. He began his teaching career in Millersville, Maryland in 1964 and, in 1969, came back to Erie to begin teaching at St. George Catholic School. In 1977, he retired from teaching and opened his own business, AJ Denny Rare Coins, where he was a dealer in ancient coins and artifacts. Enjoying being on the water, he spent every nice day out on his boat; and also enjoyed volunteering at the Emmaus Soup Kitchen.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Alice, who died on April 19, 1989; his former wife, Mary Louise Dieteman; and two brothers-in-law: Charles Dieteman and Robert Schmitt.
Tony is survived by his son, John F. Denny and his wife Jessica A. (Bills); and his three grandchildren; two sisters: Ann Baczkowski (Walter) of Jeanette, Pa. and Sheila Denny-Fong (Jerry) of Waterford, Mich.; one brother-in-law, David Dieteman (Leah) of Erie; three sisters-in-law: Susan Schmitt and Ann Thayer (Richard) of Erie and Mary Dieteman of Baltimore, Md; eight nephews; thirteen nieces; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Tony will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery.
