Jesse was the son of Charlotte Elender VanHook and William Henry Dykes; he was the husband of Malissa Ledbetter and of Carolyn V Smith. Jesse's middle name was probably Linvel. His son, Jesse, had that middle name, as did a grandson.

Jesse L. Dykes, aged 68, of Bossier City, La., died Thursday at a Shreveport hospital. Mr. Dykes operated the Alexander plantation at Scott for 13 years, prior to his retirement in 1949 when he moved to Louisiana. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors are his wife, Carolyn Smith Dykes of Bossier City; a daughter, Mrs. C. P. [C. T. for Clarence Therman] Camp of Bossier City; and five grandchildren. Funeral and burial will be Saturday at Shreveport.
