Mrs. Billie Ruth McQuaig, 89, of Waycross died Friday night at Harborview Satilla after an extended illness.
She was born in Waycross to the late Troy A. Jones and Irene Wilkes Jones.
Mrs. McQuaig worked for a few years as the secretary for First Christian Church. More importantly, she was a loving and dedicated homemaker to her husband, children and grandchildren. Mrs. McQuaig was an active member of Central Baptist Church.
She sang in the choir for over sixty years and was a proud member of The Faith Sunday School Class. She loved watching game shows on television, especially Wheel of Fortune.
Always active, Mrs. McQuaig loved working in her three acre yard. At eighty-five years of age, she was still mowing on her zero-turn mower and weed eating all three acres.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Stephens McQuaig, Sr., one brother, Troy A. "Bubba" Jones, and two sisters, Carolyn Olivia Hinson and Marjorie Jean Smith.
Mrs. McQuaig is survived by four children,
Martha Jo McQuaig Moore and her husband Jimmie of Latta, South Carolina,
Charles Stephens "Chuck" McQuaig, Jr., and his wife Beth of Leo, Indiana,
Irene Ruth McQuaig Waggoner of Waycross,
Benjamin Wilkes "Ben" McQuaig and his wife Angie of Valdosta,
five grandchildren,
Steve Moore and his wife Jenny, Carrie Ann Moore Brigman and her husband William, Erin McQuaig Richmond and her husband Phil, Matthew McQuaig, Emily McQuaig,
eight great grandchildren,
Tristan, Noah, Cassie, Kelli, Molly, Macie, Parker, Sydney,
and numerous other relatives.
A private family graveside service will be held in Victory Methodist Church Cemetery in Manor.
