Robert E. Schachtschneider, age 87, of Janesville, died on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at St. Mary's Janesville Hospital. He was born in Janesville on Jan. 2, 1929, the son of Harold and Margaret (Hathorn) Schachtschneider. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and was stationed at the South Pole with Admiral Bird. He was a lifelong resident of Janesville. Bob married Bertha Flint in Harvard, IL on June 7, 1957. He had worked for the Highway Department, Owen Vending and owned Aim Lock and Key. He was a member St. William Catholic Church, and a life member of the VFW Post 1621. Bob is survived by his wife, Bertha Schachtschneider; 2 sons, Michael (Kathy) of Janesville and Daniel (Sandy) of Rhinelander; 4 grandchildren: Jason (Maylia), Jennica (Dan), Lauren (Cesar) and Christopher (Andrea); 6 great grandchildren; many other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Margaret Osmond. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2016, at ST. WILLIAM CATHOLIC CHURCH with Rev. Brian Dulli officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Church. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Edgerton.
