Second of 7 children born to Thomas E. Tobin and Annie Hayes Tobin. Her father was a copper miner in Butte Montana who died in December, 1910 which caused the children to be sent to St. Joseph orphanage in Helena, Montana, until Annie remarried James J. Graham and began having more children. The three older Tobin girls were returned to Butte to help provide for Annie and her additional children. At 18, Alice married Daniel X. Driscoll and had two children; Daniel who was a stillborn and Donald Xavier. Her husband died in 1928, leaving her with her young son, Donald to support. She worked as a marker in many laundries in Butte. In 1941, she married Earl Merrett and had another child; Carol Ann; 20 years younger than her brother, Donald. She retired from her laundry work and spent the remainder of her life as a homemaker. She died on June 29, 1981 after several years of suffering with Alzheimer's disease. She was survived by her husband, Earl; her son, Donald and wife, Mary; her daughter, Carol and husband, Dan Del Boccio, and three grandchildren; Daniel M. Driscoll, Jennifer and Andrew Del Boccio. She was buried from St. Joseph's Catholic Church and interred in Mt. Moriah Cemetary on July 2, 1981.
