Citizen Register, Ossining, NY, Monday, December 14, 1953:
Mrs. Madeleine Hawley Barnum, eighty-seven, widow of Dr. Merritt Wright Barnum who died in 1933, died last night in Briarcrest Nursing Home after a short illness.
Born April 10, 1866, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Christopher E. and Mary Elizabeth Wright Hawley. A resident of Ossining 58 years, Mrs. Barnum made her home at 9 Ellis Place. She is survived by one son, Merritt Wright Barnum of Elm Comer Farm, Chappaqua; and one aunt, Lina Hawley of Scarborough Road, Briarcliff Manor.
She was a member of Trinity Church Women's Club and Daughters of the American Revolution. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at Trinity Church, with the Rev. Donald W. Lloyd officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot in Dale Cemetery.
