From "The Stephenson Story" by Gerald Stephenson

Anna was born February 11, 1802 and was married in Boone County, Kentuc ky to Beverly Smith Daniel, who was born February 26, 1795 in Louisa Count y, Virginia, the son of William and Mary (Thomason) Daniel. William foug ht in the Revolutionary War.

Beverly and Anna made their home on a farm near Grant's Lick, Kentuck y, in Campbell County. When the Stephenson relatives in Boone and Kenton C ounties would go to visit Anna they would have to cross the Licking Rive r. The only means of doing this in that day was by way of a ferry boat, wh ich was pulled from bank to bank by a ferryman pulling a rope. The Daniel 's house was only about a mile and a half down the road from the ferry cro ssing. Visitors were always greeted by barking and growling of the dogs wh ich hung around the house. At one time Beverly lost his left arm to cance r. She died in August of 1869 and he died in 1880.

Important Discoveries in Campbell County
S.B. Craig, Esq., informs us that in prospecting on Phillips Creek, in th is county, he has made the important discovery of the existence of two ri ch veins of silver and one vein of lead, upon the lands of Beverly Daniel s. he has leased the land for a term of years, and expects to commence ope rations to-day, with a full and effective force, to open the silver min e. He contemplates building a railroad from the mine to the Covington a nd Lexington Railroad. Mr. Craig exhibited to us a very rich specimen of t he lead discovered. This announcement has caused a great excitement in t he neighborhood, as good prospects of oil have already been found in the i mmediate vicinity.

Mr. Craig has resolved to test the value of his discoveries by investing $ 10,000 in opening and working these mines.

Later From The Silver Mines of Campbell County

Mr. B. Daniels, on whose lands in this county the silver mind was locate d, was in the city yesterday, and has given us some interesting items in r egard to the affairs in his neighborhood. He says he has been aware of t he existence of silver on his lands for a number of years, and about fi ve years ago he attempted to open and work one of these veins; but after s inking a shaft some fifteen feet deep the water flowed in and he abandon ed the undertaking. He, however, obtained some good specimens of silver, w hich he now has in his possession. Mr. Craig, the lessee, has commenced op erations with a force of sixty men, which adds much to the excitement.
Mr. D. also informs us that Mrs. John Gosney, who lives in that vicinit y, has lately found a piece of rock containing about half an ounce of gol d. A spring located upon a tract of land owned by B.T.Baker and adjoini ng the lands of Mr. Daniels, is said to be covered with petroleum. This se ction of the county certainly offers great inducements for the research es of geologists and mineralogists.
