Son of Joseph H. & Mary Ann Cook Abbey.

His first wife was Lila Rector Abbey, married February 20, 1907 in Buncombe County, NC, by Rev. William Lunsford. They were the parents of one daughter, Lila Ruth Abbey (later Freshour). Lila passed away in March 1926.

His second wife was Ethel B. Webb Abbey, married December 15, 1931 in Buncombe County, NC, by Alex P. Digges, JP. She survived him at the time of his death.

His obituary in the Atlanta Constitution indicated he had once been a resident of Atlanta for seven years, and that he passed away in Asheville, NC, after experiencing ill health for over a year. His obituary in the Asheville Citizen-Times stated he died at his home at 22 Chiles Avenue, and that he had been a resident of Asheville for the previous 32 years.

He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War and a member of the Shrine. He had been employed as railway mail clerk.

*He was survived by his wife; his daughter, Mrs.Ruth Freshour; three brothers, Walter Abbey, Clarence W. Abbey, and T.H. Abbey; and two sisters, Mrs. I.H. Carmichael and Mrs. Carrie M. Carson.

Funeral services: Friday, June 23, 1939, Lewis Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. John W. Inzer/Enzer.

Pallbearers: J.C. Cauble, John D. Cole, C.C. Mullinax, M.M. Hayes, and J.C. Dalton.
