Martha Mustain.

Martha Ellen Charter was born near Blandinsville, McDonough county, Illinois, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hattie Moran, in Stockton, California, January 22, 1915, aged 75 years, 3 months and 22 days.

On March 15, 1866 she was united in marriage with Thomas A. Mustain, and lived on their farm five miles north of town until his death, which ocourred [sic] in November 1880.

To their union six children were born, three of whom preceded the mother in death. The children left to sorrow for the loss of their beloved mother are: Mrs. Hattie Moran of Stockton, California, Harry H. Mustain of Chicago, and Mrs. Ruby Kettyle of Calgaray, Canada[,] all of whom were present at the funeral. Two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Biggs of Walla Walla, Wash., and Mrs. Mary Wagoner of Burlington Junction, Missouri, and two brothers, James Charter of Blandinsville, and Harry Charter of Guthrie Centre, Iowa, also survive her.

The deceased was one of the best and most honored citizens of this community. She joined the Hillsboro Baptist church when a young girl, and later transfered [sic] her membership to the Blandinsville Baptist church and then to the first Baptist church of Stockton, of which she was a member till the time of her death. Through all her long life she was a devoted Christian and a kind and loving neighbor and friend, and her devotion to her family and her duty was beautiful and constant and kindly. She passed away deeply mourned by the many friends who knew and loved her, and who are cheered by the knowledge that her eternal happiness is secure.

The funeral services were held in the Baptist church at 2 p. m., on Saturday, January 30th, the Rev. G. W. Wright officiating. The interment was in the Hillsboro cemetery, near the site of the old church in which she many years ago gave herself to the service of her Savior who now called her home.
