Elva Mae Hasbrouck passed away April 5, 2016 at her home in Yuma, Colorado. She & her twin, Iva Kathleen, were born June 24, 1917 to Al and Cora Wright. Elva eloped and married Harry H. Hasbrouck on February 19, 1934. To this union were born seven children, six girls and one boy. Elva thoroughly enjoyed being a homemaker and a very good cook all her life. She also worked in restaurants at various times as well as cleaning house for a number of years while she & Harry lived in Elm Creek, NE. She leaves to mourn her five daughters, 20 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and many-many great-great grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces and many friends.

Elva was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Harry H. Hasbrouck, her parents, Cora & Al Wright, her son, Bernie Hasbrouck, her daughter, Carolina Faye Jones, and three sons-in-law, Ernest I. Benjamin, Gordon R. Jones and Keith L. Ames. Also, preceding her in death were her five brothers, Al, George, Jack, Weldon & Dale Wright, six sisters, Carrie Bell Boysen, Helen Miller, Iva Griem (Elva’s twin), Jane Woolley, Mary Ann Madden, baby Mabel Eileen and one great-grandson, William Alan Bliven.

Elva was baptized into the Faith Bible Baptist Church of Yuma, Colorado on July 13, 2008. She enjoyed her friendship with the members and especially with Pastor Don Barnes and his wife Jackie. Elva especially loved visiting and talking with anyone. She lived at the Yuma High Plains Manor with her daughter, Rose, the last ten years of her life. One of her greatest pleasures in later years came from reading. She said she never had any time for reading with seven children to cook and clean for.

Elva was a member of VFW for sixty-one years, first in Lodge 9309, at Elm Creek, Nebraska, then later in Lodge #759 when Lodge #9309 joined Lodge #759 in Kearney, Nebraska.

She dearly loved her small dog, Lola. She talked to her a great deal in the last few years! She came to love her granddaughter, Susan Spencer, very much. Susan helped care for her the last two years of her life.

She will be deeply missed by her daughters and grandchildren as she was such a loving and kind mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren spent many summer months with her and Grandpa. She never had a mean word to say about anyone. She always looked for and found something good in every one she met.

Hospice became a very important part in her life in December.
