Chester T. Betker

Of Stevens Point died late Tuesday evening April 5, 2016 in Marshfield at the Palliative Care Unit of St. Josephs with his loving family at his side. Age 88 Chester was born March 15, 1928 in Wauwatosa, WI. He was the son of the late Charles and Anna (Spietza) Betker. Chester attended local schools in the Rosholt area.

He entered the United States Marine Corp on January 8, 1952 in Milwaukee. Chester served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on January 7, 1960 in Quantico, VA. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

He married the former Dolores Kubisiak on November 15, 1947 at St. Peter's Catholic Church. After their marriage the couple settled in Milwaukee, and then moved to Stevens Point to raise their family. His wife preceded him in death on November 1, 2005.

Chester worked as an over the road truck driver for a number of companies. He retired from Koch Company in 1993. He also drove truck for Moodie Trucking and Risdon Trucking. He also worked for Morning Glory Dairy home delivery. Chester also was a police officer for the Stevens Point Police Department and was a licensed D.O.T. examiner in Milwaukee.

He was a member of the Monsignor McGinley Council 1170 Knights of Columbus of Stevens Point, the Stevens Point Berens-Scribner American Legion Post 6 and the Polish Legion of American Veterans (PLAV) DuBay Post.

Chester was an avid collector and loved trains. He enjoyed cross word puzzles, the Green Bay Packers and watching NASCAR. He also enjoyed going to Bingo "loved their popcorn" and was blessed with the "gift of gab" and could have a conversation with almost anyone.

Survivors include his three daughters; Donna (Dennis) Havlovick of Stevens Point, Dawn (Paul) Blaskowski of Plover and Kimberly (Brian) Gates of Barron, WI. His two grandsons; Ryan (Jenny) Betker and Chris (Paula) Gates. Special friend Roselyn "Rosie" Kellogg and two sisters-in-law Madeline Kubisiak of Stevens Point and Esther Betker of Beloit. He was preceded in death by his wife Dolores and three brothers and one sister.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday April 11, 2016 at the Pisarski Funeral Home of Stevens Point. Deacon Vern Linzmeier officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors at the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 9:30 A.M. Monday at the Pisarski Funeral Home until the time for services.
