Dr. Charles Frederick (Chick) Behle, 81, passed away at home on January 16, 1996 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was born in Salt Lake City on April 12, 1914 to Dr. Augustus C. and Daisy H. Behle.

Charles attended Salt Lake public schools and received a BA from the U of U in 1935. He received an MD at the University of Louisville in 1942.

Like his father, he served his internship and residency at St. Marks Hospital, studied Ophthalmology one year at NYU and two years at Colorado General Hospital. During World War II, he served in U.S. field artillery reserves and later in active duty in the Medical Corps as a 1st Lieutenant. Following this he was affiliated with the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salt Lake City.

Dr. Behle was in private practice in Salt Lake until his retirement in 1982 after 40 years devoted to medicine. He was a member of the Holy Cross Hospital staff, the Utah State Medical Assoc., and the US Ophthalmological Society.

Dr. Behle married Mary Curtis in 1935, who preceded him in death. He married Susan Dixon in 1943 in Salt Lake City.

He was very active for over 40 years in the Blue Lodge and York Rite Masonry, and also in the Utah Chapter of the SAR. Dr. Behle served in the St. Paul Episcopal Church choir for over 50 years. After retirement, Dr. Behle spent 14 years in volunteer service with the Salt Lake Red Cross.

Dr. Behle is survived by his wife, Susan; children, Charles A. Behle, San Jose, Calif.; Katherine A. Behle, Wendover, Utah; M. Frederick Behle, West Jordan; and John D. Behle, Salt Lake City; Dr. Behle is also survived by his brothers, Calvin A. Behle, Ogden; and William H. Behle, Salt Lake; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Friday, January 19, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 261 South 900 East. Viewing at Evans & Early Mortuary, 574 East 1st South, Thursday, 7 to 8 p.m. Interment, Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
