Charles Vernon Peer left this mortal life on Oct. 4, 2006 to be with his God and the love of his life, Doris. Vernon was born March 24, 1920 during a raging blizzard in a small cabin 25 miles south of Laramie, Wyo. to Charles Winton Peer and Myrtle Melvina Shipp Peer. His early years were spent in Laramie, Wyo.; Colorado and Idaho. The family moved to Idaho permanently when Vernon was 10 years old. During his early working years, he worked for the Forest Service and manned the Lemhi Point Lookout. He also served as a firefighter and in forest road maintenance. Vernon joined the Army in 1942 and served in the 1st Calvary Division, 82nd Artillery. He received an honorable discharge in 1945. He returned home where he met Doris Elaine White. They were married in McCall, Idaho on Dec. 31, 1946. To this union was born five children. Vernon became a truck driver and drove for Empire Lines, Cal-Or-Ida, and Idaho Concrete Pipe Co. He retired from trucking in 1974, but soon went into the construction business with his brother Bill Peer for another three years. Vernon is survived by his children Caryl (Erlan) Venable, Melba; Carla Reed, Kuna; Judy Meyrick (Kaye Hill), Portland, Ore.; Barbara Peer, Boise; Michael (Nancy) Peer, Melba; a brother William (Florence) Peer, Burley; grandchildren Eric Venable, Boise; Jason Venable, Melba; Adrianna Meyer, Kuna; Elizabeth Peer, Kuna; and great-grandchildren Michael Venable, Boise; Miryssa Venable, Boise; and Rowen Peer, Melba. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris and his mother and father. The family would like to give special thanks to Barbara Peer for the love and care she has given Vernon since the death of Doris in 1973. Special thanks also to family doctor and friend, Dr. J.V. Drost, Dr. Robert Davidson and Dr. Patrick Knibbe for their care and understanding and Care First Hospice R.N. Debbie Gaipl; CNA, Shelly Zednick and Chaplain Bridget Stutzman for their help and care during Vernon's final days. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 9, at Bowman Funeral Parlor and graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Meridian Cemetery. Donations to the Salvation Army may be made in care of Bowman Funeral Parlor, 5525 N. Glenwood Street, Garden City, ID., 83714.
