Son of Joseph Tucker and Martha Morse of Walpole Massachusetts, the maternal great-grandparents of Laura Ingalls Wilder, Thomas was named after the president in office when he was born.

He married Martha Hanscomb of Saco Maine on 2 Sep 1825 in Boston, Rev Paul Dean presiding. His death record, 1860 US Census, and 1855 MA state census indicate that he was a hatter by profession; in 1855 the children, all born in Massachusetts except Mary, who was born in Maine, living with him and wife Martha were:

Joseph (c. 1828-1893)
Mary (c. 1830-?)
Thomas Jefferson Jr (1831-1904)
Ann (1837-1911) m Joseph Conant
Caroline (1833-1868) m Charles A. Patch
[she was named after his maternal aunt Caroline (Tucker) Lake, as was Thomas' niece Caroline Lake (Quiner) Ingalls (1839-1924)]

NB: Although Melissa Wiley's fictional stories, like "Little House in the Highlands," assume that Thomas' mother was born in Scotland, many independent sources, including the 1850 US Census which reveals her living with daughter Mary Jenkins, indicate that she was born in MASSACHUSETTS. Thomas' own death record and the death records of siblings Lydia and Lewis indicate that their father's first name was Joseph, not Lewis, as Wiley's books assume. Perhaps he was a "Joseph Lewis Tucker?"
