Eliza Doney was born August 17, 1863 in Franklin, Idaho. She was the sixth child of John and Ann Temperance George Doney. Her parents immigrated from Cornwall, England with at least three of Eliza's siblings being born along the way.

Eliza was born in Franklin and spent the rest of her life there. When Eliza was 16, she was working as a volunteer cook for the quarry crew who were hauling rock for the foundation of the Logan, Utah Temple 20 miles north of Franklin. It was there she met James Galloway Lowe, who was a volunteer rock hauler. He evidently liked her cooking, and on July 8, 1880 they took James's lumber wagon and drove to Salt Lake City where they were married for time and all eternity in the Endowment House.

By November James had cut logs and hauled them to his father's sawmill to be cut into lumber, lath and shingles, and completed a house on property his father had given him east of Franklin.

Eliza had been married five years and had three children - Ada, age 4, James LeRoy, age 3, and Lucy, 7 months - when her husband, James came to her saying he had been requested to take another wife. Eliza was a faithful member of the LDS Church and gave her permission for James to marry Elizabeth Kingsford in the Logan Temple on Apr. 9, 1885. The two families got along fine together. Eliza was called Aunt Liza and Elizabeth was Aunt Lizzy.

Eliza was an outgoing, sociable person, involved in all Church and community activities. She loved to sing, and her house always reverberated with the sound of her beautiful soprano voice.

Eliza had 13 children as follows:
Ada Aug. 14, 1881
James LeRoy Feb. 11, 1883
Lucy Sep. 11, 1884
Reuben Jan. 3, 1886
Lydia Dec. 31, 1887
Rhea Feb. 1, 1890
Lillie Jan. 31, 1892
Scott Apr. 14, 1894
Irel Aug. 14, 1896
Jennie Sept. 1, 1898
Nolan May 10, 1900
Acel Lavon July 19, 1902
Glen Aug. 11, 1904

All were born in Franklin, Idaho.

Eliza died of natural causes Sept. 16, 1947 at the age of 84. She is buried in the Franklin City Cemetery. She will always be remembered for her love, courage, and compassion.
