Roscoe - Mrs. J. W. Porter, 82, resident of Roscoe for 29 years, died at Simmons Memorial Hospital at Sweetwater at 7:40 a.m. Thursday after an extended illness.
She had been in ill health the past two years and had been on the critical list since entering the hospital two weeks ago.
She was born March 18, 1879 in Burnet County. She married Mr. Porter on Aug. 8, 1904 in Sweetwater. He died in 1955.
Funeral will be held Friday at 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church here with the Rev. Glenn Roenfeldt, pastor, the Rev. J. L. Cartrite, pastor of Lamar Street Baptist Church, and the Rev. G. A. Elrod, retired pastor of the First Baptist Church here, officiating. Burial will be in the Roscoe Cemetery with Wells Funeral Home in charge.
Pallbearers will be Dwyght Gunn, Ronald and Royce Porter, Rodney Callaway, Ervin Lehrman and Herman Jeffrey.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Howard (Malissa) Keys of Roscoe, Mrs. J. O. (Bessie) Saunders of Roswell, N.M., Mrs. Harold (Elizabeth) Landis of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Leonard (Neta) Gunn of Sweetwater; a son, Knox Porter of Sweetwater; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
