MERKEL, TX - Charles Van Baucom, 76, died Friday, October 6, 2006, in a local hospital.

Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 7th, in the Miami Cemetery in Roberts County, TX with Larry Gill officiating, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home of Merkel, TX.

Charles was born January 7, 1930, in Lefors, TX to Clovis Autry "Jack" and Lallie Doreen Webb Baucom. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Charles received a B.A. from Abilene Christian College in 1952, an M.A. in history in 1956 and an M.A. in library science in 1965, both from East Texas State University. He was a printer for 10 years, then an English teacher at Ackerly, Stamford and Wall, TX. He was also librarian for the Tom Green County Library in San Angelo, TX and for East Texas State University. He served as library director at York College in York, NE from 1964-2002. Charles was named librarian emeritus. He moved to Merkel in 2002.

Survivors include an uncle, Vernon Webb of Amarillo, TX, 3 aunts, Marie Gill and Joyce Moore both of Miami, TX and Mildred Baucom Penney of Houston, TX.
